Sales of Wedding MC Handbook to Support
Mothers Against Drunk Driving
VANCOUVER – Each year in North
America, the joy of a wedding celebration turns into
a nightmare of pain and remorse following a careless
decision by wedding guests to drink and drive. The
lives of those innocent victims and their families
are forever damaged – along with the driver
and the families who host the wedding.
That’s why the author and publisher of a best-selling
book about how to emcee a wedding is donating 15%
of his royalties to Mothers Against Drunk Driving
while working with the organization to raise awareness
about the need for families hosting a wedding reception
to encourage their guests not to drink and drive.
(That message is included as part of the books’
“dedication” page and further outlined
in a review of the duties of a wedding emcee).
“Wedding receptions are a celebration and they
typically involve a lot of alcohol consumption,”
said Tom Haibeck, author of “The
Wedding MC” handbook. “The
message to drink responsibly and to never drink and
drive needs to be part of the script for every wedding
emcee. An announcement should also be made during
the wedding reception to offer free transportation
home for guests who feel they are impaired.”
Mothers Against Drunk Driving Director of Finance
& Fundraising, Dawn Regan, says jurisdictions
throughout North America are getting tougher not only
on drunk drivers – but also, in some cases,
on the families of those hosting a wedding reception.
“Any family that hosts a wedding needs to be
aware of both their moral and their legal obligations
with regard to alcohol consumption at the event. In
fact, if a wedding features an open bar, the hosts
of that wedding could face liabilities should a guest
drink, drive and then be involved in a serious car
crash,” said Regan.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving is a non-profit, grassroots
organization that is committed to stopping impaired
driving and supporting the victims of this violent
crime. It is a volunteer-driven organization that
includes not only mothers, but fathers, friends, business
professionals, experts in the impaired driving field
and concerned citizens who want to make a difference
in the fight against impaired driving.
